It’s hard to believe that the holidays are here already!
I confess, I say that every year. And every year I am behind before I even begin. If I am lucky enough to get invited to a holiday party, I scramble to find something “blingy” or festive for the occasion. It was so easy in the seventies! Just put on your festive holiday sweater, pull on your elastic waist black pants and you were ready to party!
Finding Fashion Focus with Tim Gunn
I love to be organized but I hate the process because I just don’t know where to begin!
Foot Traffic Made My Presentation
I work with Foot Traffic’s marketing agency as one of their online strategists. My job is to help them decide what content to produce and help come up with campaigns. So you could say I’m pretty much behind the scenes. So what am I doing front and center as a guest blogger?
The Fashion Emergency
I was recently asked to speak at the 2nd Annual Content Marketing Retreat, on Whidbey Island, in Langley, Washington. I was indeed honored, and taking the event seriously, decided to find a new outfit. I found the dress – straight and fitted. I found the shoes – sky-high but sturdy. Found the jewelry – in my drawer. Then as I tried it all on two days before I was to board a plane to Washington, the outfit seemed incomplete. “I need tights!” I thought.

We are doing our part to make sure there are no more COLD BARE LEGS this winter. Here are the two winners of the random drawing. These lovely participants will get a complimentary pair of the Signature cotton tights or the Premium cotton leggings.
Ms. Cara Sorensen and Ms. Anne Robichaux
I can’t wait to introduce Kaelah, our featured blogger this month. Her festive style, red hair and joyful personality make her the perfect blogger to start the holiday season! I adore her unique style and am inspired by her fashion updates and blogs that continue to delight and amuse me. I drool over her Honeybean Mobile Boutique and can only imagine how she is filling it for the holidays.
I had the chance to talk with Kaleah to gleen some insights to share, so enjoy the “interview” and visit her blog Honeybeeinthecity.blogspot.com to find out more about this delightful style maven!
How long have you been a “fashionista”?
I still don’t consider myself a fashionista of any kind honestly! I just wake up and get dressed in the morning, and somewhere along the way I decided to share that with the world! I haven’t always had the style I have now though. In high school I was really into Abercrombie, Hollister, etc. I definitely wore preppy styles, but I went to hardcore shows on the weekend and experimented with bright makeup. I kind of always made it my own. I guess I was doing something “right” as I was voted “Best Dressed” and “Most Likely to be Famous” my senior year thanks to my clashing style. Of course I came from a school of head to toe camo so take it for what you will! 😉
Where do you look for fashion trends?
I normally don’t care if something is trendy or not. Jeffrey Campbell Litas had their time in the spotlight for a while this past year and I have 4 pairs, but I’m going to continue to wear them no matter how many passive aggressive remarks get made on Twitter about how ugly they are! They’re loud and fun. That’s what I like!
What are your favorite sources of inspiration?
I love reading other life + style blogs. Nothing is as inspiring as seeing what other real girls wear. I don’t read Vogue, I don’t care who wears what on the red carpet, and you won’t ever find me watching Fashion Week.
What is your personal style?
I’m undeniably feminine in my endless supply of floral dresses and ruffled cardigans, but my hefty amount of tattoos and piercings (and bright red hair!) definitely add an edge to them. At least I think so! My style is such a mess sometimes. One day I’m all dolled up for a date, and the next I’m wearing clashing patterns and ripped tights. It’s a hodgepodge at best!
What is your favorite place to shop?
Thrift stores on the sale days! I have our thrift stores in Nashville mapped out for their sale days and I know exactly when to go. I can get a torn/stained dress for 50 cents and then just alter it at home to be as good as new! And it’ll be one of a kind so what’s better than that?!
Tell me about your favorite outfit.
Opaque tights, without a doubt! I wear them year round. Even in the sweltering summer heat of Nashville. They’re great for these super short dresses they’re making these days!
What is the best way to update an outfit?
Add a different color pair of tights, a fresh cardigan, or even just a new funky pair of shoes!
What never goes out of style?
A classy cardigan!
What is the next trend we can expect this fall/winter?
Your guess is as good as mine! I can just tell you that I avoid all “knitwear” for the most part! I do not look good in sweater dresses, thus I avoid them like the plague! I pretty much don’t shop in retail stores between October and March. I don’t get along with winter wardrobes!
What are you looking forward to this Christmas?
This is the one time of the year when the whole family gets together at my Grandpa’s house. We enjoy being together. I also love the holiday food. I can’t cook worth a darn but I sure love to bake!
What do you wish for this Christmas?
Honestly, I would love to wake up to a white Christmas. It never happens here, but I really do dream of a white Christmas!
Did you know that color is a great way to change your mood? Just as music creates an emotional response so does color. With the current, unsettled economic situation, we are all looking for a reason to be cheerful. No wonder major retailers this holiday season are featuring bright, bold colors, suggesting strength, confidence, and optimism.
Whether it’s bright dresses, colorful jeans, or accessories, you will see color everywhere this holiday and who isn’t more cheerful when wearing bright colors? Favorite holiday colors include red, turquoise, emerald green, sapphire blue, hot pink, and orange.
And, being the “bright spot” at a party doesn’t mean you have to look like a Christmas tree. With a few fun colorful accessories, you will brighten your mood and the mood of others around you. Of course, a simple way to add color is with a pair of colorful tights or leggings. Put on your LBD or black skirt, add tights, a matching scarf… and voila!
Other featured accessories include bright shoes, purses, scarves, hats, belts, etc.
This holiday season, it is time to step away from the television, put down your bank statements, and take time to enjoy the holidays…..
….AND MAY ALL YOUR CHRISTMAS TIGHTS BE BRIGHT!!!
What Does Your Work Attire Communicate?
Whether you want to admit it or not, your clothing is a constant communication to those around you. Your outfit may say “casual chic” when you go out with friends, or it may say, “romantic” on a date night. Your style says different things about you, and there’s no place where getting that “message” right is more important, than at work.
Is your style position appropriate?
Every organization has a “style culture.” Dressing to fit into that culture does not mean you have to sacrifice style, but be aware that if you want to move up in your organization, dressing like the people in higher positions than you can demonstrate that you want to be one of them. Like my mother told me, “dress for the job you want, not the job you have.”
How to “fit-in” without “selling out”
There are some interesting ways to style up your suits, skirts and dresses and still be in line with your organization’s style culture. How? With just a few variations of accessories such as belts, scarves and legwear. Add color and texture to a business suit or sweater with an animal print belt, a patterned scarf, or a favorite accessory that reflects your personality.
Most organizations still encourage pantyhose and tights at the office because they create a clean, lean look that adds polish and class to your professional image. A staple in your work-wear closet should be a great pair of black tights.
