FOR THE LOVE OF SNAKES…

…who thought up this latest trend!?!

I am petrified of snakes and the mere sight of one in a magazine or heaven forbid, real life, sends chills up and down my spine.  However, snakeskin–particularly python–is the latest animal kingdom pattern exciting the fashion industry this season and has slithered onto the pages of every fashion magazine and every product imaginable.

Snakeskin texture and colors certainly add dramatic interest ranging from playful to sophisticated.

Python Print and Snakeskin Fashion Trend

(Black python belt by Fashion Addict, Natural snake print handbag by Prada, Python black printer tights by Foot Traffic, Python print silk dress by Lanvin, Snakeskin bangle bracelets by UO, and Gray python vamp pumps by Christian Louboutin.)

They certainly make a “striking” fashion statement!

We have been selling snakeskin prints for years and yes, we jumped on the python design wagon this season and designed a new dramatic tight and footless tight that will crawl right up your legs.

Let us know what you think about the python fashion frenzy this season.

Has it slithered into your wardrobe this year? Will you be wearing our new python tights and footless tights?

Bamboo –zle! The game with only one answer….

  • What fiber is 4 times more absorbent than cotton?
  • What is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and can grow up to 4 feet a day?
  • BambooWhat plant is disease and pest resistant and can grow without fertilizers?
  • What natural fiber contains a substance that kills bacteria and disease?
  • What material dries twice as fast as cotton?
  • What plant is sustainable, renewable, and self replenishing?
  • What plant releases 35% more oxygen into the air than trees?
  • What material wicks moisture from the skin in the summer and provides insulation in the winter?
  • What material resists odor retention?
  • What material offers natural UV protection, cutting out 98% of UV rays?
  • What plant offers the highest per acre yield, requires no irrigation, and low impact harvesting?

If you answered BAMBOO to these questions you are a winner!
Bamboo is rapidly becoming one of the most popular fibers and can be found in towels, bedding, clothes, hospital gowns, socks and athletic wear. Because it has a luxurious, soft feel, it is often compared to silk and cashmere, but with the practicality of other washable and dryable fabrics. Since adding bamboo to our line five years ago, we have had an incredible response. We suggest you try our expanded line of bamboo tight, leggings, ankle socks (men’s and women’s) and crew socks (men’s and women’s).
Try Bamboo….you’ll love it and so will the environment!

OLE, YULIE!

West 18th Street Fashion ShowThe West 18th Street Fashion Show is one of the highlights of the summer as 18 young, talented fashion designers showcase their runway collections to a street packed audience in the Crossroads Art District in downtown Kansas City. The crowd eagerly gathered June 11 to see this year’s collections based on the theme, Summer in Spain.

OLE! The show did not disappoint.

Each fashion collection was a distinctive expression from each of the designers. One of the designers, Yulie Urano, was a newcomer to the show.

When talking to Yulie, she was very pleased with her designs and found the process exhausting but extremely energizing. As a recent graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute in fiber arts, Yulie was concentrating on her senior thesis until the middle of May. Once graduated, Yulie was able to turn her attention to creating her knitwear collection, showcasing her passion for fashion. The knitting needles were flying as the mid-June deadline approached.

When asked what inspired her designs, Yulie said it was the bold bright colors and feminine aspects of Spain.

She described her collection as “fun, feminine with an unconventional twist.”

That is definitely a good description as Yulie used large twisted yarn to create all of her pieces. She made the long strips of thick yarn on a knitting machine and then knit each fashion piece herself. The bright colored yarns and garments were punctuated with contrasting colored fashion tights from Foot Traffic, creating an invigorating knitwear collection, as seen in this great photo by Tiffany Matson.

What’s Under YOUR Wedding Dress?

Don’t let your legs be last

Paris Texture Tights

The perfect man….
The perfect dress…
The perfect flowers…
The perfect cake…
The perfect legwear…WHAT?!!

Yes, the perfect legwear!

Planning a wedding takes time, patience and remembering every detail. Finding “the one” dress is almost as important as finding
“the one” husband. The dress includes not only the beautiful dress and veil, but everything else “under the dress” such as the shoes, garter and undergarments, and stockings. The entire “package” is a personal expression of the bride’s personality so it’s an opportunity to be playful, fun and surprising.

I recently spoke with Michael Nolte, a well-known bridal consultant, motivational speaker, and designer with two bridal salons in Kansas City. Michael has been designing bridal gowns for over 25 years and has contracted to style over 1000 weddings since 1980. When I asked him what the ladies are wearing on their legs under their dress, he smiled and said that the current style is “au natural” with a simple garter. We are all familiar with the ceremony of the groom lifting the dress, exposing the leg and removing the garter. Brides are spending beaucoup bucks on their shoes so Michael thinks doing something special with legwear is a unique opportunity to add even more fun under the dress while showing some of the bride’s fun personality. There are so many beautiful and fun stockings, tights and thigh highs available.

Yes, beautiful legs are a natural solution but here are some fresh new options to make your wedding as unique as you are!

Socks and Sandals-Seriously?

Victorian_Lace_showNO! Socks and sandals are not serious. They are a fun, refreshing opportunity to add some fresh fashion options to your wardrobe this spring and summer. It is OK to wear socks with your sandals or your favorite pumps. There is a lot of chatter out there about whether this look is out or in this year or if it is even an acceptable choice.  It certainly takes the right attitude, right shoes and the right socks. The combination is not new. We actually are borrowing and updating a popular look from the 50’s when women wore socks with their sandals and sneakers every day.

Last year we saw this look on the runway and it continues again this year particularly supporting some of the 2011 trends we are seeing such as color blocking, lace, and just personal choices from the feet up.

Take a look at some of the fashions that include socks this spring and summer.

This one is from Trendencias.

Row of shoes and socks

So, the sun is finally out and we begin to get our legs and feet ready to see the light of day.  We run to the salon to get pedicures, shave our legs, slather on the self tanning lotions, and change out our wardrobe for the fun skirts, shorts, and capris that we hope fit this year.  Just consider the option of sandals and socks and have fun.

Go ahead and try it–seriously!

Fashion Punctuation

Lace_Trim_Leggings_black

My older brother would be shocked to know that he has influenced my passion for fashion since he is the least bit interested in this topic. He is a writer for a very prestigious magazine in the very serious business of oil and fashion is not on his radar screen.

He once told me that his pet peeve is reading any written form of communication that overuses punctuation. To clarify, too many explanation points, too many ……s is superfluous. He firmly stated that any form of explicative should be used sparingly and strategically. Period

Although I rarely listen to my brother, I believe that this discipline applies to fashion as well. If one thinks of one’s attire as a sentence, then one should consider if there is any unnecessary “punctuation” and if so, is it adding to you personal statement or creating visual confusion?
