Fluid Fashions for Fall : Trend Report for 2012-2013

What a season for legwear!

Once again Foot Traffic was an exhibitor at the WWIN show (Women’s Wear in Nevada) in Las Vegas. The show is an internationally attended accessories and clothing show where manufacturers and manufacturers’ representatives showcase their latest fashions. The focus of the WWIN Show is on meeting the needs of boutiques and specialty retailers. As a legwear brand, we are always energized by talking to our customers and discussing how our products fit their styling needs. We listen to our customers and it pays off.  We had a great show.

Las Vegas Accessories Shows : February 2012

LOTS of activity at the WINN Show as well as ATS (Accessories the Show) and MAGIC! Buyers scurried from booth to booth as wholesalers and manufacturer reps showed off the latest and most exciting fashions and accessories for next fall, stirring up conversation and enthusiasm for their new lines. The layered silhouette still remains the dominant look with the opportunity of the retailer and customer to make it unique and personal with new colors, textures and accessories. (more…)

SKIRTED LEGGINGS…

The perfect combination of leggings and a skirt in one piece!

One of my pet peeves is trying to align my tights or leggings with my underwear and my skirt.  That’s three waistbands to negotiate every time I move!  I am always “adjusting” to avoid those unsightly lines that show my not-so-perfect figure.  You know what I mean!

Foot Traffic Skirted Legging

To solve that problem, we have designed a very figure-flattering solid opaque legging and skirt combined. It is the perfect fashion piece as it combines two items into one so once you put it on, no more tugging and pulling! It is great to layer under your favorite sweater, jacket, or shirt. At the recent Accessories Show in Las Vegas, this item was a favorite of the buyers because it fits well, looks great, and the quality is outstanding. Hopefully, it will be a favorite of yours this fall and winter.

A Missoni of My-own-ie!

Missoni for Target

My first job after college was working for Neiman Marcus in the couture department. The only reason I worked couture was the fact that I was a fashion illustration and textile major and I knew a lot about designers. I was put with the seasoned sales women who threatened my potential for making any commissions if I “stole” any of their customers. I was like a goat in a lion’s cage.  The agony of working with my co-hearts (or the co-heartless) was forgotten because I was able to sell Missoni. The collection had its own couture section that rivaled a museum setting.  I was in design heaven, amidst the incredible textures and iconic designs brought from the knitting machines of the Missoni family.  Of course I could not afford such luxury but I could touch it, sell it, and experience the exquisite quality. Every day. Every minute.

Missoni for Target

From Michael Graves in the 90’s to today, I hand it to Target for bringing such interesting designers to the public and letting the world enjoy designer brands at a reasonable price. Of course, the new 400 piece Missoni collection does not share the same refined mixing of materials and patterns of the  couture collections but it does bring forward the iconic patterns and colors so representative of the Missoni brand, and that is fun for everyone.  Now you—men, women and children- can have a Missoni of–your-ownie!

Do you like the new collection?

Have you been to Target to see it? What did you think?

What did you buy or what will you buy if anything?

OLE, YULIE!

West 18th Street Fashion ShowThe West 18th Street Fashion Show is one of the highlights of the summer as 18 young, talented fashion designers showcase their runway collections to a street packed audience in the Crossroads Art District in downtown Kansas City. The crowd eagerly gathered June 11 to see this year’s collections based on the theme, Summer in Spain.

OLE! The show did not disappoint.

Each fashion collection was a distinctive expression from each of the designers. One of the designers, Yulie Urano, was a newcomer to the show.

When talking to Yulie, she was very pleased with her designs and found the process exhausting but extremely energizing. As a recent graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute in fiber arts, Yulie was concentrating on her senior thesis until the middle of May. Once graduated, Yulie was able to turn her attention to creating her knitwear collection, showcasing her passion for fashion. The knitting needles were flying as the mid-June deadline approached.

When asked what inspired her designs, Yulie said it was the bold bright colors and feminine aspects of Spain.

She described her collection as “fun, feminine with an unconventional twist.”

That is definitely a good description as Yulie used large twisted yarn to create all of her pieces. She made the long strips of thick yarn on a knitting machine and then knit each fashion piece herself. The bright colored yarns and garments were punctuated with contrasting colored fashion tights from Foot Traffic, creating an invigorating knitwear collection, as seen in this great photo by Tiffany Matson.
