Because it has a luxurious, soft feel, it is often compared to silk and cashmere, but with the practicality of other washable and dryable fabrics. Since adding bamboo to our line five years ago, we have had an incredible response. We suggest you try our expanded line of bamboo tight, leggings, ankle socks (men’s and women’s) and crew socks (men’s and women’s).
Try Bamboo….you’ll love it and so will the environment!

OLE, YULIE!

West 18th Street Fashion ShowThe West 18th Street Fashion Show is one of the highlights of the summer as 18 young, talented fashion designers showcase their runway collections to a street packed audience in the Crossroads Art District in downtown Kansas City. The crowd eagerly gathered June 11 to see this year’s collections based on the theme, Summer in Spain.

OLE! The show did not disappoint.

Each fashion collection was a distinctive expression from each of the designers. One of the designers, Yulie Urano, was a newcomer to the show.

When talking to Yulie, she was very pleased with her designs and found the process exhausting but extremely energizing. As a recent graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute in fiber arts, Yulie was concentrating on her senior thesis until the middle of May. Once graduated, Yulie was able to turn her attention to creating her knitwear collection, showcasing her passion for fashion. The knitting needles were flying as the mid-June deadline approached.

When asked what inspired her designs, Yulie said it was the bold bright colors and feminine aspects of Spain.

She described her collection as “fun, feminine with an unconventional twist.”

That is definitely a good description as Yulie used large twisted yarn to create all of her pieces. She made the long strips of thick yarn on a knitting machine and then knit each fashion piece herself. The bright colored yarns and garments were punctuated with contrasting colored fashion tights from Foot Traffic, creating an invigorating knitwear collection, as seen in this great photo by Tiffany Matson.

What’s Under YOUR Wedding Dress?

Don’t let your legs be last

Paris Texture Tights

The perfect man….
The perfect dress…
The perfect flowers…
The perfect cake…
The perfect legwear…WHAT?!!

Yes, the perfect legwear!

Planning a wedding takes time, patience and remembering every detail. Finding “the one” dress is almost as important as finding
“the one” husband. The dress includes not only the beautiful dress and veil, but everything else “under the dress” such as the shoes, garter and undergarments, and stockings. The entire “package” is a personal expression of the bride’s personality so it’s an opportunity to be playful, fun and surprising.

I recently spoke with Michael Nolte, a well-known bridal consultant, motivational speaker, and designer with two bridal salons in Kansas City. Michael has been designing bridal gowns for over 25 years and has contracted to style over 1000 weddings since 1980. When I asked him what the ladies are wearing on their legs under their dress, he smiled and said that the current style is “au natural” with a simple garter. We are all familiar with the ceremony of the groom lifting the dress, exposing the leg and removing the garter. Brides are spending beaucoup bucks on their shoes so Michael thinks doing something special with legwear is a unique opportunity to add even more fun under the dress while showing some of the bride’s fun personality. There are so many beautiful and fun stockings, tights and thigh highs available.

Yes, beautiful legs are a natural solution but here are some fresh new options to make your wedding as unique as you are!

Fashion Punctuation

Lace_Trim_Leggings_black

My older brother would be shocked to know that he has influenced my passion for fashion since he is the least bit interested in this topic. He is a writer for a very prestigious magazine in the very serious business of oil and fashion is not on his radar screen.

He once told me that his pet peeve is reading any written form of communication that overuses punctuation. To clarify, too many explanation points, too many ……s is superfluous. He firmly stated that any form of explicative should be used sparingly and strategically. Period

Although I rarely listen to my brother, I believe that this discipline applies to fashion as well. If one thinks of one’s attire as a sentence, then one should consider if there is any unnecessary “punctuation” and if so, is it adding to you personal statement or creating visual confusion?

Navy Blue and White stripes-It’s a Classic

As we watch the spring and summer fashions hit the retail aisles this season, we are delighted and excited about the fun colors of coral, turquoise, yellow and blue. We’ve blogged about it and discussed how to wear the fun colors.

However, let’s not forget the classic navy blue and white stripes that will always, and I do mean always, be a classic look year after year.

How did this idea originate and why is it still so popular?

It is said that when Coco Chanel was having an affair with the Duke of Westminster she was eager to adapt to his yachting activities and interests so she began to wear wide-legged sailor pants, striped boat neck sweaters and flat boating shoes, inspired by sailor attire.
The look soon became popular when Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn began sporting the look. It immediately caught on and continued into the 60’s, most often associated with the rich and country club patrons.

Boot-i-licious cowboy boots for spring! Yee-Ha!

I do not pretend to know much about cowboy boots but I know I want a pair. A couple years ago I sold my red snakeskin boots that I bought in Aspen in a garage sale and have kicked myself ever since. I am now on the hunt for something that makes me smile—and fits my big feet, of course!

Every time I see women on the street with cowboy boots I love the look.

As the weather gets warmer, women of all ages are sporting their inner cowgirl and trading in their Uggs for fun cowboy boots.  I love it.

I am learning what to consider when buying cowboy boots. When searching on line, I found this great article, not to mention this great photo.

Check out “Guide to Choosing Cowboy Boots” www.fibers.com.

Although these seem like logical points it is always good to be reminded of what you need to consider when buying a pair of boots.

Here are 4 things I suggest you consider before your purchase…

Fashion layering for summer 2011

Watching the fashion frenzy at the recent runway shows, clearly layering is still an essential look for spring, summer and fall 2011.

Layering creates a clever way to change our wardrobe and pull pieces together that we never knew we could!

Plus, layering is a way to regulate our comfort as the thermostat seems to vary in our work environments and as we move from indoors to outdoors.

Without smothering ourselves in layers of clothing, start with the basic pant, skirt, or shorts, t- top or tank top, and great legwear. Once you have your foundation, the fun begins.

2011 Fashion Colors- What’s New?

Color is personal.  We each have a color that we go to when we want to feel great. It is a color that we love, and you will see it in your wardrobe every season. But we each love to see what colors are forecast for the coming season. After all, we need change and we want to know how we can add new colors to our current wardrobe without throwing out our current favorites.
Honeysuckle InspirationWe turn to the Pantone Color Institute because they are the most widely recognized global authority on color.  They uncover what the most important seasonal color trends are in fashion by finding out what hues have provided inspiration to the designers of NY Fashion Week. Their report is used as a reference tool for those connected to fashion, retail, and the media. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Institute, and her team make their choices based on current events, psychology, economics, consumer behavior and socioeconomic issues.

“We look around not only at what’s happening in the news and the socioeconomic issues of today. With so much going on and people still very concerned with losing their jobs, we chose a color we felt would be energy-provoking and uplifting.”
