A Taxing Time of Year…

Cold weather… snow… ice…warm tights …boots…This winter has been brutal and it is not over yet.  I am trying to do an attitude adjustment and think about spring which is just around the corner. That makes me think green—fresh green grass, green leaves on the trees, fresh green veggies. But I am also thinking about something else green—the green of money. Yes, it is not only the end of winter and the beginning of spring but it is also tax season, and hopefully you will  be  getting some green stuff back.  I always owe money–not sure why–but at least I know it.davebarry
Taxes are a mystery to me and I thought I would share this humorous perspective from Dave Barry, Pulitzer-Prize winning American author and columnist.

“”I’m not the only taxpayer who has no  idea what he’s sending to the IRS. This year, only 28 percent of all Americans will prepare their own tax returns, according to a voice in my head that invents accurate-sounding statistics.  Here’s my proposal, which is based on the TV show Survivor: We put the entire Congress on an island. All the food on this island is locked inside a vault, which can be opened only by an ordinary American taxpayer named Bob. Every day, the congresspersons are given a section of the Tax Code, which they must rewrite so that Bob can understand it. If he can, he lets them eat that day; if he can’t, he doesn’t.”

As  we prepare our own taxes or have them prepared for us, at Foot Traffic we think everyone should wear our fun dollar sign socks with the hopes that either we won’t owe as much as we think or we will get back more that we think! Our women’s dollar sign socks have gold lurex dollar signs for added bling. These can be our good luck money socks through tax season!  It will help us think GREEN!

As a final comment about taxes, here is another  piece of advice from Dave:

”To you taxpayers out there, let me say this: Make sure you file your tax return on time! And remember that, even though income taxes can be a “pain in the neck,” the folks at the IRS are regular people just like you, except that they can destroy your life.”
